The red soccer stadium is within a walled complex of classrooms and basketball court. This is not a religious institution as the name, St.Bernadette, might indicate. It is a community facility run by community groups for poor, inner city youth. This complex is accessible by a private drive about one block long from the main highway and is hidden from view by huge trees, the St. Bernadette church, other houses and trees. The Martissant police station is north of the complex on the main highway. Eyewitnesses have accused the police captain himself of planning the massacre on Aug 20th at the stadium. They say that machetes with the marking PNH (Haitian National Police) were distributed at the station. News accounts in the local media have reported that the police involved in the massacre were not on duty or connected with the Martissant police station. The UN outposts (blue circles) are located a couple of blocks from the entrance to the complex, not able to see the complex.
