Gran Ravin community members consult with the UN about securing the area from further criminal acts by the Haitian National Police and civilian attachés at a meeting Sept. 2 in Gran Ravin, called by AUMOHD President, Evel Fanfan. UN Rep. Juan Valdes condemned the massacres committed on Aug. 20-21 at a soccer field in the neighborhood community of Martissant and a house burning and massacre in Gran Ravin. UN resolution 1608 granted the authority for MINUSTAH to have direct control of the Haitian National Police (PNH). Valdes has ordered all operations planned by the PNH to be directly supervised now by MINUSTAH. Much criticized human rights agency director Pierre Lesperance (the agency that has led the fight to prosecute Prime Minister Neptune) has decried this action by Valdes as an attempt to destroy the PNH and humiliate the Haitian people.
