Standing on the main highway that runs in front of the St. Bernadette sports complex you cannot see the entrance to the soccer stadium. It is at the end of a block long private drive (notice the partially open chain link gate) hidden by a car lot, heavy foliage and a school building. The questions of where the UN was, what the UN knew are yet to be answered, but they clearly were not within view of the soccer stadium or of its entrance. In the question of what role the UN troops should have played in the Martissant-Grand Ravin massacres, it is important to establish the geography of the area. Stories by eyewitnesses do not implicate UN troops in the massacres, nor do they say they stood idly by as the massacres were being carried out. They do say that the police told the UN troops stationed on the major highway shown in the map and other photos on this report that they were going to the stadium to quell a fracas. Whether the shots that were fired by the police during the massacre could have been heard by the UN troops is another question to be answered in the ongoing investigation.
