Esterne Bruner, age 38, brutally assassinated, 9/21/06, because he was the coordinator of the Grand Ravine Community Human Rights Council which was pursuing justice for the victims of the two vicious massacres and house torchings in the Grand Ravine-Martissant area in the last year. A victim of both these inhumane assaults, Bruner, and his family have paid the ultimate price.

A trust fund for his children including Widnise Jocelyn, orphaned by Massacre #2, has been set up by AUMOHD.

A photo of Bruner's body at the morgue is available by clicking on the following link: body. Warning: photo is graphic and extremely disturbing.

"The memory of Bruner must not be lost in the folktale accounts of gang warfare spread by partisans of one or the other factions and promoted by the media and even government officials. Bruner and the Grand Ravine Community Human Rights Council (GR-CHRC) embody the sacred traditions of non-violent peaceful advocacy for justice. He and the dozens of victims in the recent massacres have been unarmed and non-combatants. Even if these folks had asserted the right to defend themselves with weapons, there is absolutely no excuse for relegating their deaths to vicious squabbles impossible to resolve. This community examined in depth the implications of peaceful co-existence last winter (click to read about it here). Join our ongoing campaign to pressure the authorities to establish Justice In Grand Ravine and thereby all over Haiti.
