Mr. Esterne Bruner, father of 6 children, coordinator of the Grand Ravine
Community Human Rights Council (CHRC-GR), was assassinated Thursday
morning, September 21, after he returned from a meeting at AUMOHD concerning
the Grand Ravine Massacre #2. Mr. Bruner hosted Bill Davis, Hurah Secretary
and me on Sept. 3, 2006 and showed us the more than 200 torched houses.
The picture
here was taken with me as we stood in the door way of a burned out house.
I met his wife and children. As coordinator of the CHRC-GR Mr. Bruner
worked long hours in his community and with all concerned in the aftermath
of this summer's brutal massacre and house burnings to get the legal
pieces in place and to help the victims who still had not had their
funerals as of this morning.
Esterne Bruner
was a victim of Grand Ravine #1--house burned--and #2--house burned
and shot in the arm. And now he has paid the ultimate price for serving
his people. He was a known man of peace, a community organizer, a loving
father. We are in mourning and we send his family our deepest sympathies.
We send our renewed commitment to work with AUMOHD and the CHRC-GR to
put an end to this way of life.
